Howdy Greg, while I'm not building SPNG, I still love it and probably even more the old Carson & Colorado which was sold to SP later. I know that in On3/30, there have been brass models of X-1 diesel, many On3 brass SP locos, whaleback tender kits for On30 4-6-0's, freight & passenger cars that would work, and some O scale SP/C&C structures available over the years. To quote an author of one book, "all it takes to model the SPNG is some flex track and a bucket of sand!"...well, I don't know about that but the C&C interested me since I was a young un'.
I would imagine that the SPNG is "under modeled" so you may be able to take some liberties with the line. Imagine that X-1 was the beginning and by now, the railroad might have Alcos, etc. and modern rolling stock like the White Pass. That would be pretty cool.

The SPNG/ex-C&C was built away from towns going through Owens Valley so doing scenery would be fairly easy (bucket of sand) with the Inyo Mountains as a backdrop.
I would think that there are at least a few people modeling the SPNG.
How about the Bodie & Benton? That was a simple operation.
Or, the Death Valley Railroad?

Yes, I knew that Duane was doing the SPNG in On30...but my being ancient, I fergot! Sorry about that Duane and Greg.
Here's something you may (or may not) be on the lookout for. In the very old TV show "Annie Oakley", one of the shows was about train robbers and guess what? They filmed it on the SPNG using loco #9 (I believe) and a couple of cars and combine #0401!!! Yep, the robbers hijacked the train and Annie & sheriff rode their horses along side. The sheriff got on the train and fought one of the robbers while Annie shot at the robber-engineer and he fell off! Then Annie had to ride faster and she climbed in the cab and stopped the train! I know there are old films of the railroad but I have never seen them...just still photos. I enjoyed the old show and occasionally watch the old TV channel when Annie is on in hopes of seeing that story again! Whatta hoot!!!
