I finally purchased an O scale kit by Western Scale Models for a 10 stamp mill.
Has there been a thread on building this kit?
Do anyone have any helpful hints on their version?

H Darryl

It looks like an interesting kit !

There have been a number of Threads with a fair amount of stuff regarding stamp-mills.

I'm not sure I recall someone building this actual kit though ?? L:

What are your plans for the machinery ?

Do you have any photos of all the kit parts ?

:)

Darryl

The only help full information I have pretaining to the kit is the book put out by Western Scale models,

"Modeling the Mining Industry: Gold and Silver Stamp Mills".

There is a 20 page section dealing with the construction of a HO version of their 20 Stamp Mill in the book. I do not know if this mirrors the instruction's found in your kit or not?.

The mills that interest me did not use Stamps, just Crusher's and Roll's, one day I may even build a model of one?.

Ken,
If you ever want to build a model of a roller ball mill I recommend building your own version of the Gold Cord Mine in Alaska.
Still standing and operating today but built almost 100 years agol

A mill that at one time I had worked on for a model, still have the rough plans I did up for it. The mill operated in Sandon, in the Slocan Mining District in Southern British Columbia, processing Lead, Zinc & Silver. i do have a mill flow sheet for the mill, would not live long enough to model the interior. Having enough problems modelling equipment for the Silversmith Power Plant, which still operates in Sandon for over 90 years.

Si,
Right now the machinery consists of very detailed kits.
Each one a model in itself.
As I actually work on the model, I would be happy to post photos of my progress.
But I am still doing research right now.
The particular prototype I want to try to follow is the Kentucky Mine in Sierra City, California.
A Google search for Kentucky Mine Sierra will lead you to photos of this mill.
I have visited it several times over the past 30 years but have never been able to actually get inside.
Youtube videos are available of the mill interior by searching for Kentucky Mine Sierra on Youtube.
But the videos are made by tourists rather than hobbyists looking to build a model of the mine.
The staff at the mill are all volunteers and have not be of any help to me.
The Western Scale Model kit does not follow my prototype well enough to just build the kit.
Darryl
