Southern pioneered mid train power.
They converted some B unit locomotives as their first try.
Latter they used rebuilt 40' box cars, as seen in this model.
During the early NS period they used some 50' box cars.
Latter all of the control system was in the mid train loco.

Thanks for looking,
Bobby

" Most of the inside was fill with concrete "

Well I never, a radio-controlled brick ! ;)

I was fascinated to know a bit more about these types of cars. L:

Here is an interesting Wikipedia Page, about the general concept & benefits of . . .

Distributed Power

I found a few proto-photos on Google images as well.

:)

Thank you Si for the link.
I must correct your brick analogy, concrete block is correct! LOL
You know, some scale ladders would be a good inexpensive upgrade.
And a scale brake wheel.
I have plenty of those, but no ladders.

Hopefully you layout helps you remember them fondly!

For me, born too late - and 4000 miles in the wrong direction - to see the Southern in it's prime,
my layout helps me imagine how glorious it must have been.

NCTM is most definitely on my bucket list of places to visit, as is the TVRM :D
