Slag cars...

The SCPA&M had several double truck slag cars,
at the Comanche Smelter in Silver City.

There is only one very grainy far-off photo of these cars,
but I built what looks like one of them.

The "tub" was one of a set of plastic measuring spoons,
and the frame was built from a couple of old Bachmann On30 "V" tipper car frames.

I believe the cars had inside framed trucks,
but I used these old Grandt Line On30 jobs instead.

Woodie

Not likely you would come across the movie "Men With Broom's" (OK it's about curling)
about 1 Hour into the movie, the guy's are sitting in front of the slag pile for
INCO in Sudbury Ont,
when in the background the cars of slag are being dumped from the smelter onto the pile late at night.

"My favorite part of the movie".

" Men With Broom's "

Hi Ken ???

I think I know what you mean ?

It's that weird ice game thing they do ...

... with a 'flat' bowling-ball, with a handle glued on top. :us: L:

I should think a hot-slag dump would be a 'Curlers' nightmare ! ;)

Be afraid, veeeeeeery afraid, when you start to mock the Scottish game of Curling.

Some of them maybe member's of the TRI-ANG Collectors Assoc,

and may mount a Crusade to get after TRI-ANG hackers,

and set them straight.

Feel I am pretty safe here in the GWN.

It would cost too much money to get after me (I Hope) :us::us:

or they could end up at Leduc International,

and then I would need to drive a 6 hour round trip to pick them up.

:bang:

A cool slag-wagon photo by James, from his 'BIG SKY Montana' Thread ...

... which is HERE :-

Railroading In BIG SKY Country !

Used in the larger smelters of the Butte Montana area, according to James.  :java:

A scaled down version could be a nice addition to a quirky mining roster.  L:

Hi readers !

Missed your Daily dose of  HOT METAL  ?  ???

:old dude:

I went on something of a Hot Metal  '2001 An Ingot Odyssey'  a while back ...  :shades:

... & for WHAT ?  :us:  you may ask ?

Ideas for something 'small & simple' ...  L:

... as another ODd car, for my 1:35n2 'Wolfys Car Shop', to tinker with repair/BREAK !  ;)

And came up with ^^ this !  :mex:

Some kinda trashy tabloid story/tale about it to follow ... one day ... maybe.  :P

Downside of slag cars is that you cannot just have one.  :moose:

I have 3 packed away somewhere  L:

and they do need an excess amount of rust and slag spillage on them.

Cannot really go wrong weathering a slag car.  :old dude:

Hi Ken

Yes you can Actually !  :P

Especially if you know how much $$$$ that vintage 'Trix' one cost !!

I was thinking ...  ???

... now what other oDd cars could be found in for 'repair' at Wolfys 'Car Shop' ?  L:

I ended up looking at Ingot, Hot-Metal & Slag cars etc.

Anything one might maybe just see in a really small(ish) foundry scenario.  L:

Lots of 'modelers licence' allowed PLEASE for any 'experts' out there ! Thank you.  :brill:

I had a lot of fun looking at such cars & deciding what might be good for me.

I fancy some kind of small 'Hot Ingot Car' as well ... But I got loads to do already !  :time:

I do like your scratchbuilt 'Cold Ingot' transportation car & its 'story' Ken !!  :thumb:
