Slag cars...the SCPA&M had several double truck slag cars at the Comanche Smelter in Silver City.
There is only one very grainy far-off photo of these cars but I built what looks like one of them.
The "tub" was one of a set of plastic measuring spoons and the frame was built from a couple of old Bachmann On30 "V" tipper car frames.
I believe the cars had inside framed trucks but I used these old Grandt Line On30 jobs instead.
The Silver City NG had a massive slag "mountain" behind the engine house.
I modeled a smaller version of the slag pile but it was so damn large that I never really was in love with it,
it seemed to overpower the whole scene...probably like it did in real life.
You can see some of the "skulls" in the pile, they were solidified slag which were dumped from the cars.
Historian Duane Ericson reports that most of the smelter's structures had slag foundations,
it could be spread like concrete when it was still molten.

Not likely you would come across the movie "Men With Broom's" (OK it is about curling) about 1 Hour in to the movie, the guy's are sitting in front of the slag pile for
INCO in Sudbury Ont, when in the back ground the car's of slag are being dumped from the smelter onto the pile late at night.
"My favorite part of the movie".
