How are the layout & R.C. going?
Radio control will certainly make the wiring easier!

Nice compact micro layout plan

It's on hold for the moment.

Right after the post we had major water damage in my house.
It's all fixed but my modeling bench is being moved to another room.

A nice bonus is there is room for a shelf layout!

A big change in modeling direction for me.

As noted in the previous post I have access to a corner of my sons bedroom,
since he's off to college (Woo Hoo! and I miss him already).
He even gave me permission :-).

Here is the corner in question-

The desk in the corner is my modeling bench.  The other one is on its way to the garage.

Here is my old set up from the family room before the water damage.

The main water flow was under the modeling bench.  :f:

This is how it usually looked and one of the reasons my wonderful wife suggested moving it out of the family room.  :)

I have all the shelving ready to be installed in the new space.

I think I will make the first shelf a 12-18" wide L shaped shelf layout.
The long side can be 8-10 ft long.  The short is 4ft.

I would like a combination of On20" and On30" since I have a nice selection of each.
Lot's of thinking and planning to come.

Needless to say this is no longer a micro layout.
Should I start another thread?
If so where?

I mean the workbench,

does anyone have a tidy bench?

I haven't accomplished much concerning the layout.
I'm hanging the shelving system this afternoon.

Surprised to find that I have two different types of rail,
which are slightly off on spacing.
I will make sure that they match at the layout level for sure.

I'm researching the best baseboard material.
I've used hollow core doors in the past.
They cost a bit more now!  Foam is a possibility.

I plan on hand laying the track,
so need to figure out the best surface to go on the foam.
Needs to hold spikes and provide sound deadening.

Any suggestions?

Worked a bit more on the modelling corner.

I raised the workbench 1.5" for ergonomic reasons.

Now I'm figuring out the shelving.

The first shelf will hold the layout.

The box lid is 16" wide.

That's about a wide as I want to go.

Howdy Derek, you might be interested in the thread for my little On20 Gila Tramway here on Freerails.

http://freerails.com/view_topic.php?id=2587&forum_id=40

It is only 2 by 4 feet, but over the years it runs whenever I want to watch it.
Just two lokies, a modified MDC HOn3 Shay and an 0-4-4 built from an old HOn3 brass Fed 4-4-0.
Cars are a mixture of Grandt Line Gilpin cars, scratchbuilt, and a nice little laser cut coach.

I didn't know if you knew about my little pike so I provided a link.
It is in the micro/mini layout section here.
