I'm Dan Moran from Orange, California.
I've been an armchair model railroader for the past 30 years or so,
but early last year I finally started building my first layout.
It's a 5'x9' HO scale layout based loosely on the "Jerome and Southwestern" layout,
that John Olson described in Model Railroader in 1982-1983.
The layout is set in Arizona copper mining country,
and I've decided on 1945 as my time period so I could focus on steam with a few diesel switchers.
I'm glad to be joining this forum, and I'm looking forward to learning from all of you.

Howdy Dan and welcome to Freerails.
You couldn't have picked a better inspiration for a layout than John Olson.
I met him many years ago and he was a super nice fellow besides being a great modeler.
His Muleshoe Meadows and other works were and still are at the top of this hobby.

I agree with Woodie on John Olson and I remember the Jerome and Southwestern...
It was a really nice and ambitious little layout....
Good luck and remember, Rome wasn't built in a day,
it took quite a bit longer but your layout wont take nearly as long to build.
