I understand what you are saying Bob,
I have seen similar results in my profession over the years.
I used to work in areas that the current draw was 4000 amps DC.

I'm convinced the Mantua problem was caused by tiny arcs with the carbon,
and dirt build up over a long time.

The steel trucks and the cast tender frame was causing a problem as well,
due to the different metals and a strap would stop the arcing.

Such a simple fix but hours spent finding the cause, as I said before,
my hair can grow back after scratching my head so hard,
and my life can move forward on to another project.
