I am building a small HO scale layout, under a clump of Crepe Myrtle trees in the back yard.

I am using DelTang R.C. stuff from the On30 Guy.
I first converted a Athearn GP-38 putting everything in the shell,
to include a capacitance touch switch under the cab roof to turn the unit off and on.

Pretty cool except when the engine goes underneath low hanging foliage and turns itself off.
MOW crew is slack.
Battery charging pigtail is under the removable dynamic brake hatch.

Second effort was a diminutive $5 unknown name 0-4-0 tank engine,
that I put everything but the battery in.
I made a sorta whaleback tender for it that holds lots of mA.

I’m currently working on a better quality 4-4-0 that doesn’t look as goofy.

There’s a lot of good stuff on this forum!

Hal

Hi Hal,

Welcome to this great forum,
where you can ask silly and normal questions,
and get a sensible answer,
well most times.

Seems to be a lot of people going for the battery powered layouts,
would solve many wiring problems.

Good luck with your locos and layout,
will be watching with great interest,
keep the pics coming.

....Peter

Howdy from Texas and welcome to Freerails.
R/C HO in the sunshine...very cool.
Remember that r/c doesn't just free you from wiring problems,
it frees you from wiring altogether!
Have fun and give us updates.

Woodie

Thank you all for the warm welcome!

If I had done more preliminary reading,
I wouldn’t have committed the grave faux pax,
of using such a controversial name for BPRC.

I don’t usually like acronyms,
and for some reason those letters don’t just roll off my tongue like it should.

Another poster suggested calling it RC and I will try to stick to that.

I attend a couple of old timey DCC operating sessions here,
and just giggle when they pull out the track cleaner,
or when an engine gets stuck on a turnout.

Hi Hal

Yeah ... You really got your wires X crossed THERE bud !  ;)

I've known people in the R.C. Forum to start fizzing like an overcharged Li-Po ...

... untill they finally swell up EXPLODE and vapourize ...

... just at the slightest mention of DEAD RAIL.  :P

Talking personally (one of) my favourite GRUMPS  :f:  is  A.C.R.O.N.Y.M.S. ...

... which most 'normal' people haven't got the faintest idea WHAT ? they mean !  ???

That's probably why when I waffle on about such matters ...  :old dude:

... I just call it Radio Control !

Most folk since Marconi have at least vaguely heard about it ...  [whack]

... other than Aliens from the Planet Zorg ...

... who just use telepathy & avoid the vast amount of wiring ...  :shades:

... associated with all the complex transmitters, receivers, batteries, chargers, antennas etc.

Anyway gotta dash ...

... My  M.M.M.M.M.& M.Co.  A.C./D.C.  Li-Po  B.P.R.C.  N.M.R.A.  D.C.C.  is dead !

  What ? ?

Si.

P.S. It's not The Beatles 'White Album' ...

... or a negative of AC-DCs 'Back In Black' either.  L:
