Hi all,
have just joined your forum and am introducing myself.
I have dabbled on and off in model rail projects, with anything from 3mm to 1:24 scale.
The pleasure was mainly in building something, and never ended up in producing a layout.
Not long ago decided to move from the south, and now reside in Lincolnshire,
where I discovered a small group who meet once a month, and all belong to the 7mm NG Society.
We are currently engaged in making a modular type layout of no particular design,
each member producing anything that takes their fancy, in either 7mm NG or On30 scale,
the only requirement being that each members boards can couple with any other members boards each end.
This is giving us a layout over 40ft long when all connected.
My modules, consisting of two boards when linked, depicts the paper making industry.
It's in its early stage, but consists of a wood chipping shed, pulping digester and the mill itself.
When further down the line will post some pics of this.
Originally the group developed everything to run on DC control.
But after exhibiting part of the layout (around 24ft) at Bressingham this year,
concluded that one train running at a time wasn't that interesting to the paying public,
so the group now wish to convert to DCC.
My boards although laid out for DC Operation,
allows separation from the main through line to the sidings,
so that I can operate a shunting sequence, without disturbing the main line traffic.
However rather than trying to convert the few loco's I have to DCC,
am embarking down the Radio Control route,
and just purchased a DelTang controller and receiver package.
Will let you know how I get on.
Regards James

Many thanks Si for the welcome.
The group decided on a standard dimensional size of the modules,
although some license given on length and width,
providing the location dowels and module connections were at set parameters,
and the through rail set at a given distance from the front.
It was decided to leave the rail ends floating,
to allow for any minor adjustment when connecting each board.
I haven't been able to explore the whole of this site,
but presume somewhere there is instruction on how to upload photos.
Regards James

Hi again James
In a nutshell ...
- - - - - - -
Once you have resized your photos to a sensible web size of under 0.5MB and say 800 or 1024 pixels wide ...
... Hit the 'MENU Button' at the top of every Freerails Page, and then the 'GALLERY Button' from the 'Drop Down MENU'.
Once on the 'GALLERY Page' you can then select 'UPLOAD PHOTOS' from the choices there ...
... A new Page appears where you can upload 5 photos at a time to your 'Freerails Members Gallery'.
Simply use the 'BROWSE Buttons' to find the sensibly resized photos you want from the files on your computer.
Once all 5 or less photos are selected hit the 'UPLOAD PHOTOS Button'.
The photos then have all been uploaded at once to your 'Freerails Members Gallery'.
- - - - - - -
Now the photos in your 'Gallery' can be COPIED & PASTED into the 'Main Reply Window'.
Click on the Thumbnail of the photo you want to Post, on one of your 'Freerails Members Gallery' Pages ...
... It is then ENLARGED ...
... Then 'Right Click' on the ENLARGED photo & select 'COPY IMAGE' ...
... Then in your open 'Main Reply Window' in another Browser-Tab ...
... Place the cursor where you want your photo to appear & 'Right Click' then select 'PASTE'.
The photo will appear where you've placed your cursor.
Doing this in some spare space between text is a good idea, for appearances sake.
Spare blank line space can be created simply by hitting 'Line Return' a few times.
Likewise 'excess spare blank lines' can be removed by placing your cursor & hitting 'Backspace'.
Clicking on a wrongly placed or unwanted photo in your 'Main Reply Window' will highlight it ...
... Then hitting 'Backspace' will remove it from your 'Main Reply Window'.
- - - - - - -
All these moves are just like a Word Processor, or many other simple COPY / PASTE computer actions.
Just experiment with the 'Main Reply Window' & you'll get the hang of it very quickly by experience.
It's much easier to use, than trying to describe how to use it !

Si.
