Hello everyone, I'm happy to become a member here.

I'm Russell, Russ to my friends,
and I'm 70km south of Perth WA in an outer beachside suburb called Mandurah.

I've been a 30 year HO logging modeller (and 42 year railway man),
until life set me 'free' again but required a drastic space/scale reduction.

I'm now modeling a freelance N scale mining company & railroad
(with Colorado Midland and C&S influence) set in the Colorado Rockies in the mid 1920s.

I have a small fleet of 2-8-0s currently under rebuild, a 2-6-0 and a boxcab diesel.

A small but growing fleet of ore cars (HOn30 Gilpin cars work well in N :) ),
and a bunch of USRA gons and boxcars amongst other things.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to following the C&S,
and other interesting threads from the Rockies locale.

Cheers,

Russ

Howdy Russell, welcome to Freerails.

Those little On2 Gilpin cars look great in N scale!
They really look small behind a "proper" On2 loco and still look little in HO,
but that's how little they really were.

We can stand much more, send photos.

Woodie

Hi Russ

WELCOME ! again ... & great to see you here at Freerails.  :thumb:

GEE ! ... I just luv those old skool Gilpin ore-cars of yours.  :old dude:

A very  C   L  idea, using those teeny weeny 'Grandt Line' On2 models, for standard gauge N.

I found that some similar looking '60s 'Tri-ang' HO hoppers, work well in size for my 1:35n2 scale.  :moose:

Rumour has it, that the new 'owners' of Grandt Line ...

... are planning to re-release those long out of production Gilpin On2 kits again.  L:

Let's hope so ... I'm sure they will be onto a WINNER if they do.  :)

Your lil green 'Holt' tractor looks pretty  C   L  as well ...

... can you tell us the origin of the model ?  ???

:)

Si.

Hey Si, thanks for welcome!!

The Holt 75 tractor is a Shapeways print,
I got 2 of them.

There's 4 bulldog Mack trucks to the left of the tractor,
Shapeways as well.

The ore cars are actually Shapeways prints too.
Car 6 is from a different designer so harder to get operational,
so might just inhabit the car shop.

Incidentally, the 'coach' body above the yellow caboose,
is a resin Brill55 railcar body.

Greetings!

I'm new to Freerails and, having just worked out how to upload,
and -hopefully- successfully post photos,
I decided to start an ongoing thread,
on my N scale Colorado mining adventures.

I'm a long time HO logger,
but recent events have 'set me free' again,
and with a drastically reduced space, the logging empire is gone,
and an N scale mining operation has taken its place.

Some pics of my engines.

My MT caboose shortening job, modified in front of an unmodified caboose.

My flanger car.
I went back to the Bachmann plastic deck, looks much better.

The blade assembly is the orange thing just behind the car.
It's made out of a plastic drinking straw.
