Youtube video of the latest effort in smaller scale.

Engine is a brass D&RGW K36 in HOn3.

I installed an Airwire900 system powered by a single cell 250mAh battery,
boosted to 9 volts with a Pololu step up voltage regulator.

For ease of use I made the battery removable.
This eliminated the need for a switch and charge jack.

Battery plugs in and sits in the tender coal bay and is covered with a coal load.
With two batteries there is ability to run continuously.

It has a TCS WOW sound decoder, headlight, backup light and firebox flicker light.
Everything fit very easily in the tender.

Latest R.C. system is the new DCC compatible decoder from BlueRailTrains,

which runs great on battery power.

I have installed Bluerail in two engines now (for others)
and in my opinion it is a very good system.

I especially like the fact that the board can be shortened,
by "breaking off" the connector part of the board and hard wiring to the solder pads.
That reduces the length to 1.5".

Personnaly, being an old dinosaur, I am not crazy about touch screen operations.
I  prefer knobs and switches.
I am sure that most people these days are comfortable with a touch screen.

The programming aspects are great.
You see on screen exactly what is currently programmed and what each CV is.
No need to look up the CV and then guess at what to set it.

I started this thread, and then let it drop,
as I got a chance to buy several On30 locos and rolling stock,
so figured I'd not be doing HOn30, hence not contributing.

After rearranging my hobby room to fit a small On30 layout in it,
and some time spent packing away other various model kits and such,
I thought I was good to go.

Until early December, when Granddaughter told her Mom, who told us,
that she was going to transfer to a college here, near where we live.

Long and short, Grandma insisted she should live with us for the duration
(bless her heart).

So have spent more time, moving out of my 'hobby' space, into a smaller space.
This has nixed the On30 idea.

So have sold off the stuff I had bought, and am going back to HOn30.

Have bought one Minitrains Forney,
and have a Minitrains F&C 0-4-0 tender loco on the way.
Much like my original plan.

Have been emailing back and forth with Andy at Micron RC,
just about have my initial order organized.

So, we'll go on from here, and see what I can screw up,
um, I mean, accomplish.

:)
