I haven't built one of these for awhile.
It's getting a bit easier as the components get smaller.  :)

The lineup is: electronic switch; 3.3 V converter (both Pololu); Deltang Rx61.

The converter is because the original power is 2x AA batteries,
not enough voltage to run the radio (or the white LED headlights).

Here is one with the radio gear tucked up above the pc board (and Deltang transmitter):

Here is one with a microcontroller to convert the on/off IR remote to a ramped up start/stop:

This one has far too many options but it sure is fun to drive:

As for Deltang, I can use their Rx4x series with the ADD2 current booster.

Bob,

Can you tell something about the audio board?

Is it OEM or an add-on?

The upper photo with the orange monorail is the OEM audio board,

limited to a few pre-recorded phrases.

The lower photo is an Adafruit Audio FX mini board, CD quality audio,

several minutes of up to 8 clips that we load via USB.

Is the board triggered from Deltang RX or auto?

In this model, the audio is triggered by a channel on the Rx,
and goes through the audio clips sequentially.

On another, it is triggered by a magnet sensor,
to play the correct clip depending on where the model is.

On another, I am using six outputs of the Rx,
to trigger clips individually.

Finally, one model triggers clips sequentially,
with each starting 15 seconds after the previous one ends.

It's a fun audio board!

Thank you Bob,

I may give the board a try.

The only sound I have had success with is ambient used in the clip below.
