I'm starting a DCC conversion in a G-scale locomotive,
and would like the option to have 'Battery Powered Radio Control' in the future.

The system I want is the DRS1 MKIV, so I can use my existing DCC equipment,
but I haven't seen any of those in person yet.

How many wires do I need from the receiver in the tender to the decoder in the locomotive,
and how much space would be left for batteries ?

The usable inside dimensions of the tender are just over 3" x 2.25" x 1.25"

Also, what batteries might fit in that space,
that would be the optimal voltage and have long run-time ?
