To an extent I do as in so many seconds per car to charge the system.  Also, since my sub-division has manual ground throws, all trains must stop to allow the head brakeman to throw turnouts for sidings when making a meet.  Also the train must stop again to allow the rear brakeman to re-align the turnout for the main before the train moves to the other end of the siding.  That is why it takes nearly an hour to switch the Spadra turn which works three towns with one spur each (and that's with no scheduled meets).  It is that added work that makes the run more realistic.
