Bob, I filled the gaps with some latex caulk, seems to work fine, but I still need to ballast.

I had to re-position the inside rails on both the turnouts I converted from 054 to 072, kept having derailments due to them being too tight.

I think they ought to rename the guard rails to "guide rails" because if you don't have them in the correct location they won't "guide" the engine thru the turnout. Learned that the hard way too :doh:
