The digital display is the Voltage regulator,
it displays the output Voltage to the camera.
It's either change the 9 Volt battery often,
or run with this large regulator that happens to have a readout.
As I said earlier with today's electronics there are better ways,
but I am from the days of valves, and they get too hot for plastics.
I found out the hard way, the camera is sensitive to over Voltage,
so the display is also a quick check of Voltage output.
