So I've decided to go with N-Scale given the room I have and given that I'm fairly new to modeling I feel that the complexity of building out HOn3 is a bit intimidating.

I want my layout to be a late 1800s early 1900s mining operation so I've begun my search for available rolling stock for this and haven't come up with much.

Does anyone have any good recommendations for old style mining rolling stock that is N-Scale?

Hi Jesse,

A gentleman by the name of Randall Gustafson makes a tiny V&T type four wheel ore car:

He also makes a Class A Climax kit which would fit your era:

I'm not connected in any way but I have some of his kits that I intend to assemble one of these days...

I'm not sure what else is available for the turn of the century in N scale. But I've found a few Micro-trains, Athearn and MDC kits that fit well.

Good luck on your search!

Those little V&T ore cars and Climax kit almost...ALMOST makes me want to do N scale! Finally, there are kits for something other than double stacks and pig flats in N scale. Wonder if thet Climax could be "bashed" with a Z scale diesel mechanism for an Nn3 lokie??

I don't do N (too small for me) but I can really appreciate these kits and hope that they sell out!

Woodie Randy's kit has been done on a Z chassis and I might do that to mine. Plus Aspenmodel in Germany has some Nn3 brass Climax rtr and kit form. They are no were what you can cal inexpensive though.
