Hi Alwin
Looks like your gettin' there.
I dunno what lighting you have...
...but...
...I just bought a 500 Watt halogen-light...
...Outdoor-type, in an aluminium casing.
It was about £3 / $5 no kidding; spare bulbs $1.
Bounced off the ceiling; it gives a pretty good 'white' light.
Great for seeing colour 'correctly' (Mmmm.)
An exellent referance.
Cheap & usefull kit.
Thought I would mention it...
...good for photography too.
All the best.
Cheers
Si.

Been busy with the bridge. Where it has to come is a trestle not possible so I choose for a truss bridge. I still have to do a paintjob on many parts but here are some photo's, not on the layout but they show the progress on the bridge.
An overview:

And a detail:

BTW Si: sorry for the late reaction, but I used led strips in the photo's I posted earlier. Wasn't happy with that so I have some new ones now, with smd 5050 leds this time. It's much better.
I have some problems with the installation of the backdrop but when that's done I post some new pics.

Hi Alwin
No rush ! ... If the railroad 'mixed-train' don't get in till next week...
...none o' the locals are gonna bat an eyelid !!
Fantastic bridge Alwin.
I love 'em all ... but the look of a train going 'through' a nice truss; takes some beating !
Good to hear about the lights Alwin.
I just use the 500 Watt halogen for photos realy.
I dunno how you could 'permanently' light a layout with one...
...probably can't.
The LED's sound good, if they are bright enough.
Woodie has the best layout lighting...
...and he didn't even pay for it; or gets a monthly bill.
Smart ! (a$$)
Looks like the KM&RC is gonna be shipping some serious tonnage pretty soon !
Can't wait !
All the best.
Cheers
Si.

Charles, thanks for your reaction.
I keep in mind your hot glue option, I didn't thought of that. I think acc dries to fast. Personally I was thinking of using PU glue what gives me a longer processing time and a misplacing is easier to restore.

Alwin, here's another plan. Coat the bottom of the rails with PLIOBOND or GOO (contact cement) and let it dry. Then while using some track gauges to hold the rails in gauge, carefully run a hot soldering iron on the top of the rails. This will soften the glue and then when it cools (almost instantly), the rails will be held in place. If there is a gauge problem or expansion occurs, just do this operation again. I suggest trying it first with scrap rail on scrap wood/ties to get it down. How old is this idea? It was being used in the early 1960's to hold code 40 rail down in HOn3 since spikes at the time were too big. An old idea that works well and may help you here.
