Fellers.

I once had a rather largish HO standard gauge model railroad..two years ago it all came down , result of a long deferred and much needed divorce...I am moved to new digs. A model railroad started in the living room , cause I can.
First fotos from this morning. There are construction fotos , I take alot of fotos . These may get in some section later . if thought appripo .

In the living room, my goodness.  The nearest I ever was to that idea was reading about coffee table layouts in magazines.  I am confined to the basement, although I sometimes sneak upstairs to do repairs on locos, etc.

Si , Erb' Woodrow , fellers..

The original "palms tower " lives..and I have more Palm trees..it shall rise from the arshes..in fact the fotos taken today feature the palms tower...the whole thing { Olde Tidalwater} was ..Uum a bit too much..some very nice scenes..sorta big time in a small un workable sense..HUH.you say

The new is intended to have all the features that were good..none of the acres of table top.with tracks wandering around..not all .but some...was ..etc..I am not short of track to lay out again..I kept about thirty cars..offed huge amounts of stuff..

      Hi Charley

No; I got that, from the thread pix.
      Pretty impressive...
      ...looked like MEGA fun...
...but ALOT for a guy to run & keep working good...
...more like a large club-layout, in fact ?

      - - - - - - -

" The new is intended to have all the features that were good..none of the acres of table top.with tracks wandering around..not all .but some...was ..etc..I am not short of track to lay out again..I kept about thirty cars..offed huge amounts of stuff.."

I think you could make & run a Railway for those 30 cars...
...& have the RIGHT number of switches...
      ...managable table-top acres...
      ...& still get top-notch ops.& despatching...
...you wouldn't need the binoculars & 2-way radios to see & speak to the far-end of the line !!

      - - - - - - -

So whats the NEW 'Tidewater' concept then Charley ?

      Terminal - terminal ?
      One yard ?
John Allen 5 switch minimalism ?
      Micro 'Tidewater' ?
      A pizza, with garlic-bread car-float ?

Seems like you have sectional-track, to try a few things.
But I bet with your experience...
..you already have a pretty good idea of what you're aiming for...
      ...right ?

      All the best

      Cheers

      Si.

P.S. Those 2-shouts & 2-mooses from Chas. looks like an Oscar could be on the cards.

Si , Erb , Woodrow fellers..

Erb cut me off ..or I'd post pitchers...:mex:

The railway is a game board. Operations with car cards.I use dice to generate random movements.

The car cards identify a car. The car card has a pocket . In my pockets..{ no loose change mind you ..:old dude:} I have three , four sided cards ...two spaces each side..facing opposite directions ..

These to be slid into pocket so as to be able to be read. One position will shew above the fold of the pocket.

Six positions on the cards are for MT car movement.six positions are for loaded car movement. The totally convenient six sides ..corresponds ..with Di...Roll the dice baby ...

If you care to move a car..decide whether it is MT or loaded.Roll di , find corresponding number. insert card to shew that move. Move car.

Pockets on fascia are labelled for each industry the cards go in the pockets labelled for the industry where the car is spotted .

The four sided cards have been carefully made to reflect that type of cars destinations. The number of cars which can be handled at that industry , are considered when making the cards.Balancing spotted cars ..OR NOT...

The qustion asked by Si , was , whot pray industries.

      Well.

      I have a gravel plant.with a co-incidental US Borax loading point.

      A oil rack..as if a refinery

A metal working industry receives steel and ships steel widgets in boxcars.

      A foundry which receives steel.

A oil facility for loading fuel barges.

A ship which loads steel into gondola's

      A interchange with another railroad.

A spur into the tank for the Pacific harbour tug boat service.

And a car float.takes cars across the bay..

      On the layout now are:

      Eleven tank cars.

Eleven gondola's { six GS drop bottom and five standard type }all of the gons will load steel , the drop bottom gons will load gravel.

      As of now there are no covered hoppers for US Borax loading..I have kits to build a few.{ # to be determined }

      three boxcars

      Six reefers

I hope that answers the question.

Nice weathering on the hoppers Sir ...

      'Erb cut you off?

      Unkind my friend--unkind

Like I told you--try to find someone conversant with these evil boxes to get the big G back--I can't do it from here. If you can get that, and you still can't post, we will go to plan B--or C-----or-----or.  Being that youse live in the wilderness (you lucky dog!) you might have to go to where there is some civilization and kidnap someone.

Every once in a while, modelers see a pix that catches their attention. I wonder how often this feature caught Charley's attention--at 31" benchwork height, that would be just about butt high--get the point?

      The MUCH maligned 'Erb

You can design that feature out this time Charley...

If it simply can't be redesigned for the MKII 'Tidewater' ...

... perhaps some HI-VIS warning signs could be used ?

      Si.
