Hello everyone,
My name is Brian Wise. I've had a number of model railroads over the years, mostly in HO. I got out of the hobby for many years then got back into it again about 7 years ago when we moved into a new house here in Washington state. I built a "train room/library" in part of the garage to keep my stuff all together which prompted a round-the-walls shelf layout (in HO) to give me a reason to play with DCC and other new modeling techniques. My son also enjoys the hobby very much. Now with the eyesight heading south, I'm thinking about On30 and another shelf layout under the HO one.

I'm a big SP fan, and all things logging and mining. I'm looking at taking cues from the Gilpin gold tram and Pioche, NV narrow gauge mining operations for my new project. I joined an On30 group last year and hope to build one or two modules to take to shows.

I'm the general manager of the Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad and am therefore in a unique position to provide photos or other information about prototype logging equipment (rod and geared steam locomotives, donkeys, etc.) to anyone on the forum who's in need of that sort of thing.

I'm looking forward to going through the On30 threads to glean information that will help me with my efforts, and participate in the discussions where I can.

Best,

Brian

Howdy Brian and welcome to Freerails. I know that you will love it here and I might suggest that you start a new thread with photos from Mt. Ranier. We would all be quite interested to see and appreciate them. If you need any help, just ask. Sometimes the photo business is a little tricky but after the first one, it all gets easier.

Welcome aboard Brian. Since you have HO experience, you'll enjoy On30. It's the same gauge and if you like, you can use HO chassis and trucks and couplers, but there is the advantage of O scale for tired older eyes like mine!

I got hooked on Micro Layouts in On30, something I'd never heard of before in fifty years in the hobby. (You CAN teach an old dog new tricks!)

Have fun!

Thank you, everyone, for the greetings! I'll work on a new thread with photos of the collection at Mt. Rainier. We've got a good variety of stuff, plus logging camp bunk houses from the 1920's and 1940's. We're working to create a new logging museum with new exhibits going in this spring, and I have no doubt that we'll be incorporating modeling ideas into the process.

Best,

Brian

I know this is an old topic, but I could use some help getting photos into a message. I'm using Google Chrome and have successfully uploaded a test photo to my gallery, but can't for the life of me figure out how to get the photo into a message. I've gone through the four pages of messages on this topic but to no avail. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

Brian
