I don't normally post this kind of stuff, but this is starting to make the rounds on various train forums and mailing lists. Someone has applied to patent wireless control of model trains. Specifically, the application looks like track powered with wireless control. Those of you with any kind of business interest in this sort of thing should take note. There is TONS of prior art for this.

Lo! Another Matt Katzer has turned up...
Phony patent - it is a pity that due to changing bye-laws, the patent offices no longer recognize this b...s... in the beginning.

Helmut, do you mean that it is not going anywhere, but only if challenged, or ... what? Is this a legitimate attempt to patent DCC, or R/C, and might work unless we are vigilant, and challenge it? Or is the whole thing a joke?

To me it looks like another try to just have a formal reason to charge other manufactureres of control systems for patent infringement - it has been tried before. There's lots of prior art, but that will not prevent anybody from being charged and defend himself costly.
Just an addition: Here you can see what this guy has got patented. Look at the date of the video and compare that with the "patent's" provisional application date.
Just one final word:
I've been one of the contributors to the project depicted in the video since 2012, and we were well aware that sooner or later someone would succeed in the U.S. to obtain a patent for what was long since published in the net. So, at least in the E.C., this patent isn't worth the paper it's been printed on.
