My Grandfather drove steam locos in France in WWI. He was injured when a French trainee hit him with a shovel. Its on his service record....

Helmut : Is the Simplex ever allowed out onto the main ? - works/maintenance trains ?
Presumably it's kept at Boston Lodge ? - or up at Blaenau ?
Trev : Was he ANZAC transport corps or a drafted civvy specialist ?. I hope he smacked the froggy back with the shovel !.

Then I took it out from Boston Lodge to Minfordd sidings - work train. At that time nothing was stabled at Blaenau.

ANZAC Transport Corps service no 1246 enlisted 6/10/1914 as part of the Australian Imperial Force. Born in Sofala he was in one of the famous Cooee marches to Sydney. He was with 7th Coy AASC with the rank of "Driver" which must have been seargeant as I have his regailia. His service records on the 12/5/1915 show him at G'polli....
Had what I would consider an interesting life, enlisted as Traction Engine driver, after WWI he went back into gold dredging except it was Tin dredging in Siam with his wife and my Mum who was about 3 then returned to Australia and became a Railway Locomotive inspector and I recall trips by train to the Family Soldier Settlement Farm at Mt Frome granddad and I always rode in the cab from Sydney To Mudgee (Mt Frome) Not much of the actual mount left, the family discovered there was more money in mining the Limestone than trying to grow anything and "Frolime" used to be sold in bags... Then he went back to mining gold and we know he was incharge of a gold dredge on the Turon River and later at Wellington he was running another gold dredge later moved to Coogee in Sydney...
We dont know what his reprisals on the Frog were, there seems to be no mention of any discipliary action...

Hi all,
For Trev, (although I bet he knows about this given its just up the road) The Australian War Memorial has a lot of its photographic collection digitised and searchable on the web. Using the Search facility and "Simplex" turns up 17 results of Simplex locomotives using

Using "locomotive" turned up 171 results with some additional Simplex photographs scattered thought them. (note this broad a search also picked up some WW2 stuff from the Borneo Railway at Balikapan (railway Jeeps on narrow gauge). "Railway" turned up 5044 photographs of anything that had a railway in it. 
The photo record is also searchable by name and unit.
The UK Version, The Imperial War Museum, turned up very few available relevant photos using "Simplex" but turned up 516 photos when using "Light Railway".
