My new layout involves the trans-shipment of cable drums out of the factory (by narrow gauge) to either road or standard gauge. I have already built a working gantry crane, but thought it would be fun to see if I could provide a mobile crane as well.
I found a Russian Maz 200 model on EBay and converted it for RC using DelTang 16ch receiver.
Yes, most excellent. Now, to those who say "It can't be done" and "All that equipment can't fit into my HO locomotives"...just remember that these are O SCALE TRUCKS, smaller than many HO locos.
Giles has done it again, masterful work, imagination, and a great soundtrack for this video.
Thank you sir.

There were a few problems to over-come with this, certainly.... One of them was how to (successfully) make operational stabilisers within the confines of the space.
This eventually led me to re-creating the rear stabiliser block, with added internals (thanks to our little laser-cutter!) and powering one of the gears with a servo.
The Motors were the usual Motor/gear units I use (6v) in a variety of ratios, two which winch drums added, and one with a gear for the slew added. These of course had to have power conducted via slip rings through the centre bearing of the crane.
What was the running gears for the truck portion? I badly want one or two radio controlled vehicles with this type of operation on my layout but have never found anything with scale speeds and smooth operation that small.
