Just re-Posting this from a while back . . .
- - - - - - -
It's been noticed that there are a LARGE number of interesting Topics,
that are essentially sitting in the 'General Talk - Off Topic' Forum,
& often get 'buried in history'.
So I've decided to dig up some of these dusty ol' 'General' Topics,
& 'Move' them to somewhere more suitable.
For example...
...'Does Anyone Remember Cardstock Structures' has turned into a long & interesting Thread.
It has been 'Moved' to the 'Kitbuilding' Forum.
This is pretty much only going to affect Threads that got started in the 'General' Forum.
'General' is sometimes where some of the most interesting, unusual Threads get started.
Some get a few Posts, others get a few PAGES and THOUSANDS of views !
I hope this might help current & future Members & Guests,
find even more COOL stuff to look at on Freerails, more easily.

Si.

I only look at stuff that draws my interest and rarely comment on it.
So...we need to step it up and get more folks to post
At least folks here post about what they're doing,
one of the other forums I visit seem to concentrate on what the other forums are doing,
or on stuff that's no longer made, like they're "collectors of the obscure",
or post stuff that's so far off the wall, you wonder what they've been smoking. ![[whack]](/images/emoticons/Whacko.gif)
I think more folks would participate in the RC forum, if we had a "RC for Dummies" tutorial.
Some of the talk is so convoluted, that it's hard to grasp what is being said, unless you are an EE.

Howdy Bob, I was the one who made the "honchos" start the r/c forum long ago.
I kept griping and jabbering until the listowner created the forum to get me away other forums!
When I began the subject, I posted what I was familiar with, r/c car equipment in locomotives.
After these many years, that is what I still use (I can't or won't afford the new stuff.),
if it ain't broke, don't f@#k with it!
I appreciate the response it has brought and though I am still the moderator,
I feel that I have been "left behind" by the new devotees.
Oh well, that's the fate of us old dinosaurs.
Try reading the original post about r/c
http://freerails.com/view_topic.php?id=1221&forum_id=45
which began.."In the beginning,..."
Just let the kids talk about their toys, I am still running my old lokies, just like usual.

Hi Bob
There is no doubt that it is the Members & their Posts, which make Freerails what it is.
The fact that there are over 1/2 a Million page-views a month ...
... is a testament to the 'quality' archive of material, Posted by our Members.
The more of course, the merrier !
There is a slight tendency in most Forums, for Posting to drop off a bit in the spring/summer months.
Gardening (my bugbear !), holidays, family stuff, can mean a bit less modeling.
The upturn in Posting between say September & May is consistently noticed.
Having said that, I personally enjoy Posting whatever the season may be.
Freerails has propelled my modeling forwards, like nothing else.
I like sharing my own crazy constructions & step by steps etc. ...
... which is exactly what I like to see & is often not catered for in magazines etc.
Some Members do drift in and out of Posting, as their 'life situation' changes.
I very much miss Michael (salada), as I'm sure many of you do as well.
His 'life situation' has meant a step back, from his regular & entertaining Posts of the past.
Whilst on some Forums, someone 'blinks' and you get 10 'attaboys'...
... Freerails, thank goodness perhaps, isn't total 'attaboy central' ...
... but the Page-views say it all, in terms of the 'quality' content on Freerails.
So I would agree with Bob.
Don't THINK about Posting a comment, a photo, a model, or an idea ... POST IT !
Some of the unusual stuff that goes up, is often the most commented on ...
... and sometimes the most viewed.
Of course, to the regular photo, model & layout Posters ...
... keep it coming !
If you don't get 10 'attaboys' for blinking, just check the Thread views.
Many people including TONS of non-Members are following your diverse stories each time you Post.

Freerails may get even more views and new guys due to the BS surrounding photobucket.
Since I won't search for other "photo hosts", my days of posting anywhere but here are over!
But then, what do I know...I'm just an old dude who lives in a cave (searching for a new cave).
