You might look at Soundtraxx. They have a good reputation and supply some locomotive manufacture's with sound units including Bachmann On30, HO, and Large Scale Climax's.

I just came across a site where another guy installed the Soundtraxx Climax sound in a model of a ClassA. He deleted the bell track, as the A did not have any. According to him, the remainder faithfully represents that loco's sound.

Hello Doc,
http://www.Soundtraxx.com; Durango, CO, U.S.
Good chips, I am slowly converting locos to them but I wasn't aware they had a Climax chip though they do make a reduced function one (a bit cheaper) for Bachmann's On30 Climax (at least, I've been told elsewhere that Bachman are using their chip).
You could try phoning them - I did from England; VERY helpful & polite tech dept (perhaps my accent helped ?!) - or E mailing them.
Make sure you choose the current Amps type for your particular motor. If your motor exceeds the chip rating you WILL destroy the chip.
Regards, Michael

I had wondered how you picked a decoder that would not let out the "mysterious white smoke." Now I know. Thank you. Doc Tom

'Evening Doc,
The model Climax in Helmut's link in above post has a TSU-750 motor control/sound chip.
Your consists are probably small & lightweight but be careful in On30. That chip has a MAX motor stall current of only 0.75 A or you'll have genuine white smoke (but only for a second or two). For On30 Consolidations & K27s I am using the 1000 series chips but they haven't hauled anything heavy up a grade yet; they seem OK so far on my test tracks.
Regards, Michael

Thanks Michael and Helmut for this great advice. I will be very very careful...........to avoid the puff of white smoke. Doc Tom
