I own one of these contraptions, too.

Here's a video to give you an impression of its use.
Some 40 years ago they were quite ubiquitious in farming and forest environments.


Addendum

Mine is equipped with a 5-HP two-stroke motor,
and a PIV ( pitch infinite variable ) gear that is effective forwards and backwards.

I bought it planning to make a loco drive out of it,
but it still sits in the garage untouched!
