Scratchbuilding things is so much of what this hobby is about.
Sad to see how much of this is being lost,
with the plug and play RTR world, modelers are growing up with today.
I like ready made products as well,
but the skills needed, and the time spent problem solving,
and creating something from nothing with your hands, is beyond fun,
it is an essential challenge a true craftsman needs, to stay relevant and satisfied.
I used to have a great old Logan Lathe post WWII vintage.
A great old lathe, was my Dads.
I knew how to use it but not as well as he did.
I had to part with it a few years ago as it just sat and took up space,
and I was setting up my model making shop.
It hurt to sell it but such is life.
I have another quite old Montgomery Ward wood lathe, and use it for smoke stacks,
and will be making the tall pillars, on one of the iconic buildings here soon.
