I'd consider any high-rail vehicle to NOT be off-road,

as it's much smoother and safer than any paved road you could drive on.


No real danger of getting a flat, out on steel rails !

Yeah, but they'll cross grade-crossings right in front of you.


I volunteer at a tourist RR,
and we have a high-railer for track inspections and the like.

I've never gone out on it, but those who have,
have told me it's common for people to zip out in front of it.

I guess because they know a truck can stop much quicker than a train
(or most likely because people are idiots at grade crossings) ?


Heck, people have cut off our trains on more occasions than I care to recall,
and at the most we pull a 4-car train with passenger cars.

Even around 10-15 MPH train speed, they'd only have to wait a minute or two,
but I see it all the time.
