Some of you may have noticed the many - nice and cheap -
trolleys, railcars and locomotives, produced by 'Atlas' of China.
For some reason, mostly French, German, and other prototypes.
Have weakened on several of those, a big NH motor, some trolleys,
and now the French 'Pauline' railcar.
In reality, it looks even better than in the advertising...
Especially like the rivet detail (Yes, the rivets are oversize).
Immediately checked how to motorize it.
Original trucks are flimsy and short wheelbase,
nothing that comes close in my inventory.
Came to my mind that I have a Suydam PCC drive left over,
when I converted the PCC to a modern underfloor drive.
This is a sturdy drive, with rather small wheels.
Should do.
Have laid Pauline and PCC floor next to each other.
Found that it is more prudent,
to put the Suydam trucks under the Pauline floor,
than to adapt the complete Suydam drive to the new body.

This will be an interesting project.
Looking forward to seeing the results.

Progress !
Drive completed.
Underbody detail added (battery boxes, large gas tank).
Butchered two Athearn F-Unit shells for their pilots.
Added trolley sideframes.
Added steam type headlights with LEDs.
Have tried to keep the delicate automotive type headlights,
but ruined them when drilling them out.
Have removed the roof detail,
and will rearrange exhaust and radiators.

And yes, the rivets are on the coarse side....

Rivets about the size of hamburgers, eh.
Oh, those poor Athearn shells.
Railcar now has the look of having the solidity and mass of a rail vehicle.

Just imagine if it would be painted black !

That brings to mind a book purchased back in June,
turned out to be quite nicely done.

Think this is a book worth reading....
Re .'Pauline'....
Somehow the body sits rather high.
Something I cant change without considerable butchering.
According to suggestions of a Friend,
I have added steps for passenger compartment door and baggage door,
as there are no raised platforms in those forlorn parts of the world,
where Pauline will spend her working days.
Then, as I am very happy with my hotrod V8 powered HOn3 gas electric,
I removed the tiny muffler, and added pipes in Straight Eight configuration.
Open pipes save lives !
No more crossing accidents on the California Pacific branches !

New trick I found when doing those steps...
Drilled the frame and inserted 1mm brass rod,
then drilled holes the same distance in my expired social security card,
and cut strips from it.
Material is virtually unbreakable and easy to cut and drill.
Wonder if I will get paint to adhere to it !
