A former "Boss, Administrator, CEO or whatever" of Freerails

died yesterday, peacefully at his home in PA, U.S.A.

I don't know the real job title.

Some may remember Herb Kephart

the man with the cigar smoking dog

a great modeller, engineer & personal friend.

Herb and I had established a good 'virtual' friendship via e-mail,

alas never met personally.

We exchanged news and opinions about everything

from politics, social life, model railroading,

and vintage cars we both were keen of.

I'll miss him.

Herb was so helpful to me during a couple of problems I had.

I will always remember his kindness.

Very sorry to hear that.

Herb was instrumental in getting me involved in Freerails.

I am sad.

I enjoy all of you on this Forum,

when one departs,

it takes a part of it with him.

Very hard to hear,
so many of us passing it seems.

What a great modeler and inspiration.

Love the elegant hound and Herb car shot,
thanks Eddie.

Wow, that brought back some memories. I was one that gave being a Moderator a try and like Herb had said it took away from modeling and other projects. I was and am still working on my house that I started building in 1999.
I got the chance to talk to Herb over the phone. Great guy. I wish I would have taken the time to go visit him in Pa. Couldn't have been to far from NY.
Unfortunately the previous Admin drove me away. But I'm back now, hopefully for good.
R.I.P. Herb. I miss ya.
Bernd

Ha!
I also started in 1999 but gave up long ago, and leave it unfinished. RR's have priority.

Herb's attitude, humor, and encouragement convinced me this group was a good home.

Miss him.

But this bunch is still a good home.

Sad to hear of his passing.  I never new Herb personally, but he was a cornerstone of Freerails and will be greatly missed.
