This is my latest diorama based on buildings in the Queens area of NYC in 1930. I added extra details and structures I felt added character to the scene but were not in the prototype picture (which can be seen on my website). My interest in building it goes back to my youth in the 1960s when I routinely drove by the location. Paul: You can look up Flushing or Whitestone NY on any internet platform. The towns are located about 8-10 miles from Manhattan. They are notable for some American historical figures and authors. Of course the buildings in the prototype photo were not there when I was younger. Youtube has several videos by Tommy Byrne about both towns. I can't remember which has the prototype picture.)
Thanks! My wife's cousin is a NY city denizen and an artist who is very interested in the way the city looked in the 1800s and 1900s. The photo and modeling are wonderful. I'll do some internet sleuthing - it would be great fun to try to find where that single/double-track intersection was and send it along with your photos to him.
The Mets baseball stadium is also not far from that intersection.The track going left to right is called Northern Boulevard.
