Is it possible to embed a video from YouTube into a post or can it only be shown as a link?

If it can be embedded, how?

Hi Doug,

I've just done a few quick tests.

At this stage of Freerails development on the new server I don't think we can embed videos into Freerails. Using Youtube's "embed code" does not work.

My current understanding is that the best way forward is to post a link to the relevant Youtube video.

The Frerrails "Add link" button appears to be broken and although it appears to work on the screen does not create a viable Youtube link.

I have found a way to add a link, but it is "clunky", and I'll have to write it up tomorrow.

Thanks John. I have no problem adding a link from YouTube by simply selecting "Share" then "copy" and copying the now blue and white text and posting it.

I also tried the "embed" route but couldn't get a result, hence the query. On NGRM just posting the "share" option embeds the video but of course different servers will have different protocols.

I realise this is early days for the new Freerails (much appreciated by the way) and maybe the video embedding facility can be added at some time in the future as the team get more to grips with the server's vagaries.

This board's software used Flash Player to play embedded video. Flash was a huge security risk and was deprecated by Adobe and fully written out by Microsoft

Our new site will use html5 to display embedded videos in your posts

Thanks Alan. Does that mean the facility for embedding is on its way or can it be activated in some way now?

The short answer is wait for the new codebase.

It is possible I find a fix but it's honestly not a priority.
